Brown Town

The Poudre fished really good today. I caught nothing but browns not a single rainbow, which never happens. Once it warmed up they started hitting olive bodied caddis like crazy I couldn't keep them off my line. The Poudre is on fire right now, I can't wait to get back up.

LABOR DAY UP THE POUDRE

I went up the Poudre this Monday, It was awesome...The fishing was good too. Anyways the weather was great and I caught some really nice fish on an olive bodied caddis which has been my go to since runoff stopped.
A colorful brown
I also caught this nice rainbow that put up a real good fight with several aerial maneuvers, I had to jump out and run way down the bank before I could land it. Sometimes I think I should get a net for these bigger ones, but that might take the challenge out of it.

RECENT CATCHES AND A SNAKE

Double header at Dixon on a rainy night just before dark.

I caught these and many more Colorado Cutthroats out of Long Draw the other day; the water was crystal clear. I was able to sight fish, watching them come up from the bottom and take the fly was amazing.
My buddies big rainbow from Parvin, according to him based on the markings on the side of its head it is from the brude stock and was probably recently released in the lake.
A rattlesnake that I almost stepped on at the North Fork of the Poudre below Seaman Reservoir. This place has a lot of rattlesnakes so be careful and leave your dog at home if you go.
My beautiful girlfriend comes out to support my fishing. She's so wonderful!

LAKE BROWNS, WHITE BASS AND A WALLEYE

On Saturday my friend and I found a small lake up the Poudre Canyon on an unmarked pull off that I had probably driven by hundreds of times. I decided to fish it and ended up catching some browns. I'm Definitely heading back soon because there was also river access from the same pull off, it might become my new go to spot.

On Sunday I went out on the boat for a few hours before work and I caught a 20in walleye and a bunch of trout.

On Monday I drove down to Loveland and fished the inlet of horseshoe lake and caught white bass til my arms were tired. They were all about the same size, but they put up a good fight.
Basically I just want to show off all the fish I caught lately, its been really good fishing.

NONSTOP DRY FLY ACTION ON THE BIG T

Fished the Big Thomson today, it was amazing, I caught fish almost every cast for the entire time I was there. They were mostly rainbows and a few browns. It was an awesome day on the river that I won't soon forget. I took a few photos, but I  really didn't want to set my rod down.

MOTHERS DAY WEEKEND BOAT FISHIN'

My parents and I took my dads boat out this weekend and we an awesome day on the water. My mom was trolling a worm on a crawler harness while my dad and I fished the shallows with crankbaits. We did really good and caught more than just a sunburn.
My dad started things off with this healthy rainbow

Then I got this one in the boat, but my mom had one on at the same time that's right double header.
Exact quote: "You better take a picture of this motherfucker"
This was definitely the fish of the day.
I finally got a bass like I was trying for all day, it was wierd having those rainbows chase down our crankbaits, but really fun, they sure can jump when they get hooked up.
Another nice rainbow to cap off a great on the lake.

CINCO DE CINCO

I fished the Poudre in town today and caught another nice brown, probably about fifteen or sixteen and very colorful.
After the release he just chilled in the rocks for a little while. I snapped a photo I reached down to try and revive him, but he jetted off so I think he made it, at least I hope so.

Then as soon as I got back to fishing the river came up and got all muddy and full of logs, which ended my day.

GETTING SOME POUDRE

The Poudre has been fishing really good lately, but I still haven't caught that big one. Here are some photos:

Also, I got a new piece of gear that I think will become very useful as temperatures heat up and the days get longer. Cheers

RESERVOIR INLET

My fishing buddy and I went down to one of the Fort Collins Area Reservoirs, seeing how it's spring time went headed straight to the inlet, and to our delight water was flowing in from the irrigation ditch. Hoping to catch some bass and or crappie we tried some minnows on bobbers and working crankbaits on our second rods. After an hour or so we finally go some action, but not what we expected, we started slaying trout on the minnows. I caught like seven or eight little guys, and my buddy got a really large one.

One of my little rainbows
My buddies much larger rainbow

Flooded Out

Went down to the Poudre in town because the weather was too questionable for the canyon, the fish were rising like crazy, after a few fly changes I caught these two fish. The rainbow was pretty chubby and put up a good fight. Then without warning the water rose like a foot and a bunch of huge logs came down it was kind of scary like a flash flood or something. Even worse the fishing was ruined, wish I could of stayed they were really stacked up.

Spring Break (SB2011)

I was off work and school all week after a bouldering trip to Newlin Creek, I finally got on the river for some fishing on Wednesday. I went up the Poudre Canyon the weather was beautiful like 70 degrees and I caught some small rainbows on dry flies. It was exciting that the fish were finally hitting on the surface so much better than nymphing.
Then on Thursday I left town to go visit some family in Missouri and it happened to be the beginning of Spoonbill Snagging Season. So we went out on Table Rock Lake up the James River and tried to catch some of these prehistoric river monsters. I didn't get any, but my dad caught a seventy pounder check out the photos, what an ugly fish.

They are pretty weird looking and they don't have any bones they're all cartilage like a shark. It was quite the experience to catch something like this in fresh water.
